About us
La Perle Noire

Bringing together the four corners of the world

La Perle Noire opened in March 2021 in the heart of San Miguel de Cozumel.

The idea was to create a comfortable hotel with its own diving center and a pirate touch. Our rooms are named after famous pirates who plied the Caribbean seas.

With these private lounges and common areas, guests can meet, exchange ideas and make new connections. It's now been 3 years since La Perle Noire opened its doors to travelers from all over the world, with whom we've created lifelong relationships.

Weigh anchor and sail the sea, dive on the world's second largest reef, admire Mexican flora and fauna, discover historic Mayan sites and head for wild beaches. This is the kind of adventure that awaits you.

We're delighted to have you with us and hope you enjoy the pirate experience!

Michael

Captain

Michael started the Pirate Inn in 2021 after the pandemic changed the face of his previous job. Hungry for adventure and new challenges, he dropped anchor on Cozumel, a small Mexican island in the Caribbean Sea.

Changing lifestyles, learning a new language, going into business abroad and integrating into local activities were big changes, but also good sources of motivation in her adaptation process.

He's the first face you see when you visit La Perle Noire. Calm and patient, he listens to each and every one of our visitors and suggests activities to suit their tastes and preferences.

Passionate about diving Michael is currently completing his Dive Master at La Perle Noire so he can guide you through Cozumel's fabulous coral reefs. He is also the owner of Reckless Esurf here in Cozumel; his school offers Electric Surfing lessons.

Laurent

Browser

Hi, my name is Laurent. After 15 years working in the industry in Canada, I decided to leave Quebec for an adventure in the Caribbean. My trip took me to Cozumel in early 2021. I quickly fell in love with scuba diving, which led me to pursue professional training in the heart of Cozumel's wonderful reefs. That same year, I launched La Perle Noire to share my passion with new divers from all over the world.

Dom

Quartier-Maître

Hello, my name is Dominique.
I'm positive, curious and passionate. I left my former career in Quebec just over a year ago to come and live in the Caribbean. Today, my life consists of meeting new people, diving and sports. It will be a great pleasure for me to welcome you to La Perle Noire, and make your dreams come true!
See you soon

Gaby

First Officer

For more than 3 years, Gaby has looked after every corner of our hotel with care and passion. Much more than a housekeeper, she's an exceptional person, always smiling, available and with a rare generosity. A former restaurateur, she sometimes shares delicious homemade Mexican dishes with us, adding a warm, authentic touch to our daily routine. Gaby is the benevolent soul of La Perle Noire - a real treasure for our team and our guests.

Etienne

Boatswain

A native of Victoriaville, Étienne is part of the adventure La Perle Noire since the very beginning. Young, dynamic and attentive to every diver, he embodies the energy and passion of our dive center. Having completed his Divemaster and then his IDC (Instructor Development Course) here in Cozumel, he now enthusiastically shares his expertise, always ready to help you discover the wonders of the underwater world in a professional yet friendly atmosphere.

Marie-Josée

The Matriarch of the Edge

Guardian of harmony and creative muse of La Perle Noire. With each visit, she breathes love, energy and a breath of fresh air. Thanks to her decorative touch, her plants and her bright ideas, the hotel exudes warmth and elegance. A true gatherer at heart, she makes the crew and guests radiate like a treasure from the heart.

Miguel

Cabin boy

Miguel takes great care in maintaining our swimming pool. Dynamic, respectful and always ready to help, he is one of those discreet but essential people who keep the hotel running smoothly.

What they said

I had an excellent stay of almost a week on the black pearl and can't recommend it highly enough. I took my open water course there and discovered some great diving spots. I also rented a scooter to discover the island.

The owners are very responsive and friendly, and the hotel is well laid out and pleasant, with a swimming pool and rooftop terrace.

My friend and I had a great stay at the inn! The place is beautiful and very welcoming, a large kitchen with everything you need to cook and very comfortable rooms! A rooftop for relaxing and socializing completes the picture!

We were there to dive and the owner Michael was always available to help us with accommodation, diving and organization! The dive guides are really competent!

I would definitely recommend La Perle Noire! We loved our stay and have decided to extend it for a further 3 nights.

The great atmosphere, the team working there (Dom, Mick, Gaby and Sparrow the cat), the memorable activities and this island paradise made our trip a success.
Don't miss: a day of diving (special mention to instructor Jesus) and a snorkeling tour at El Cielo!

We had a great stay! Laurent was very responsive in helping us organize our stay, and Michael welcomed us warmly and recommended some great spots around the island.

The place is very pleasant, the rooms are clean and the wifi is excellent and works everywhere. You can also rent scooters and bicycles.

We had some great dives with Etienne, who was a great teacher and always in a good mood. Thanks to them for this great experience, and we hope to come back.

A great place with great people! Feels like home.

Accommodation: nothing to say, clean rooms, good bedding, I was pleasantly surprised. There's a pool, kitchenette, board games and bike and scooter rental. However, it's a 20-minute walk to the center of Cozumel.

Diving level: it was great! Étienne is a great, funny teacher who listens and makes you feel safe. The people who run this hostel are relaxed, attentive and the team is well organized.
